Reviewed from notes.
The appearance was a murky brown color with a finger’s worth of white foamy head that fell off at a moderate pace. Some stringy lace.
The aroma, for a brown ale, seemed to have a bit more hoppines up front than just some earthy or grassy hops. Yes, this one had some citrusy to even some light piney bitter hops up front over top of a light caramel/toffee malt base.
The flavor had a decent blend between the hops and malts, somewhat. The more I tasted this, the more I thought more of the bitterness came out penetrating the aftertaste. Finish was semi-crisp, semi-bitter with a sturdy hoppiness.
The palate was almost medium bodied, seemed to sit just a tad under and relegating a fair sessionability about it. Carbonation felt fine. ABV felt fine.
Overall, if it was darker, I’d say this was a black IPA, but there’s no such thing as a \"brown IPA\" by style, so, well, yes, I’d say this is probably the hoppiest brown ale I ever had.
