Sampled on draft at 3R6P this beer poured a black color with a medium sized foamy tan head that left minimal lacing. The aroma was coffee, roasty malts, bitterness, smoke and wood. The flavor was bitter, dry and roasty with coffee, a mild herbal note and a hint of smoke. Long finsih. Medium body. Meh.

22 oz. bottle purchased at Brewerie, Erie Pa. Deep black color with lasting tan head. Nose deep roasted aromas. Barley, chocolate and ash. Flavor again shows rich roasty malts, charred barley and a touch of rye to give a nice beefy touch to the body. A light coffee grounds element that gives a bitterness to help balance the sweetness. Notes of charred Espresso beans. I bought this blind without knowing anything about it, a real nice surprise and I was able to drink the 22 oz. bottle really easy, nice job from this brewery!

Bottle. Pours black with tan brown head. Nose and taste of rye, baker’s chocolate, minerals, burnt coffee, burnt chocolate malt and burnt barley. Lighter than medium body. Abrasively dry finish.

On tap at the bocktown. Big and black with a nice creamy head. Barely any aroma. First taste is mellow but then the IPA thing starts to kick in. Yes, evolves. Mellow at first then immediattely it sneelks up from behing and kicks you inthe back of the head. Kick you in the pants. Wew, quite an evolution fer sure. Thoughbt it started out like any other friendly stout then wham, ipa double city, with a rye twist.
