Sampled at the Hopsnobbery Collective Stout tasting on 01/23/10. Tried both the XII and XI. Pours pitch black with a medium creamy beige head that dissipates steadily. Rings of lacing on the glass. Bourbon aroma with notes of chocolate, vanilla and coffee. Rich body with a consistent bourbon character and flavors of wood, malt, dark chocolate and coffee. Some ashy notes as well. The finish is malty with a bourbon and hops aftertaste that lingers. Very good beer overall.
