Deep amber ale, with a rich brown bread and biscuity aroma. Caramel and nutty flavour, with spice and toasted malt . Medium bodied, rustic bittersweet finish, that is very moreish.
The ending of the old year was celebrated at Orkney’s neolithic heart, Maeshowe. The chambered cairn’s passageway, was built to capture the final sunbeams ,to signal the shortest day is over and it is time to look ahead.

Cask at Archibald Simpsons. It pours clear reddish brown with a medium, sturdy beige head. The aroma is bitter - sweet, dried fruits, raisin, sultana, toasted fruit cake, brown bread, touch of caramel, some tanginess and earth. The taste is bitter - sweet, firm dryness, brown bread, earthy, toasty grains, some warming spice, nuttiness and tree bark with a drying, toasty finish. Average body and moderate cask carbonation. Decent malt driven beer. Not super drinks el though, a half was fine.
