2oz sample at Dominion Wine and Beer in Falls Church pours a VERY inky black with some sudsy, tan head. Big molasses nose, quite a bit of licorice too, malt, roast, some dark chocolate, a little dried fruit. Flavor follows, sweet molasses and licorice, malt, chocolate, some coffee, heavy burnt toast. Full bodied, sticky finish.

750 ml bottle I brought to share at the Annapolis tasting. Bottle #58 I believe. Aromas of sweet roast, vanilla, dark chocolate, toffee, light licorice. Tastes of bitter roast, dark chocolate, subtle licorice. Medium body with a dry finish. Enjoyed this one, one of their better beers I’ve tried.

750 mL bottle from Beer Run, opened 10/29/14. Bottle #2X57 (poor handwriting on the bottle). Pours a dark brown with a dark brown thin frothy head. Good head retention. Aroma of roasted malts, chocolate, tobacco, earthy hops. The taste is chocolate, roasted malts, caramel, vanilla, tobacco, earthy, piney hops. Medium bodied, mild booze, low carbonation, moderate lingering bitterness. Nice stout.
