Tallboy poured into a tulip glass, very dark brown with good sized dense tan head. Full body. Roasted malt and chocolate aroma. Excellent chocolate, burnt grain, and licorice taste. Bittersweet finish. This was a nice find.

Pint can form Wine Warehouse. Apparently I've only had variation(s). Pours a bit thick, deep brown, nearly black... looks black in the glass. Small, soft tan head. Aroma is cocoa powder, chocolate (somewhat candied), hint of stone fruit (which seems odd... this glass has been washed). Flavor is chocolate, coffee grounds, light char, a bit of fruitiness in there. GNG.

From somewhere: pours black with a brown head. Aroma is dark chocolate, dark roasted coffee, roasted malts, vague fruitiness. Taste is lightly boozy. It be very roasty. Body is kind of fat. Light bitterness and ample sweetness.

Bottle at the RBWG 2015 Grand Tasting. Pours rich black with a thick, beige foam head. The nose has lots of burnt pine and baking cocoa. Medium sweet flavour with more bittersweet chocolate, dried dark fruits, woody bitterness. Full bodied with average carbonation. Lightly warming to finish, with further bitter cocoa, scorched earth, more charred pine. Good and hearty.

Location: 750 ml bottle from De Fles Winkel, 10/9/15

Aroma: The nose is dark chocolate, roasted / burnt malts, a bit of molasses, licorice, and coffee
Appearance: Dark brown-black color with a thick, creamy brown head and heavy/coating lace
Flavor: A bitter leaning example of the style, dark chocolate, unsweetened coffee, and roast
Palate: Fairly full bodied, smooth, lightly hot, quite creamy, with a long, dry finish to it
Overall Impression: I liked this one. The stuff I've had from these guys has been pretty much consistently good from my perspective. This is no exception. I purchased this and the vanilla version around the same time, and I enjoyed both quite a bit. The vanilla made it more sweet, but may have taken away a bot from the roasty / dark chocolate complexity. Both are really nice though.
