Draft at Beer Temple. They even had the specific Foederbier glass, kudo’s for that. Aroma of oak and red fruit. Taste is dry and sour, with oak, tart and some distant cherry-like fruit. Very drinkable and tasty, good beer.

Tap at Beer Temple, 19th December 14. Aroma is sour, wood, grapes. Flavour is sour, booze soaked wood, almost slightly ciderish. It’s OK, not as clean as I would like

Draught @ Beer Museum, Brugge. Deeper, slightly dark amber in colour with a thick bubbly head. Has a sour character throughout with very woody and earthy aromas. Alongside the fair sourness there’s some fruit and is inactive in the palate.

Draft at Beer Temple. Pours near clear amber with an off white head. Aroma of slightly cheesy funk, dusty notes, overripe light fruit, wood, compost and lactic acid. Flavour is light moderate sweet and over moderate acidic. Medium bodied with light carbonation.

The ’raw’, unsweetened, unfiltered maturing Rodenbach directly from the wooden cask, only for sale in a few pubs in Roeselare and at beer festivals, as far as I know. Yellowish beige, thin head, deep burgundy colour, soft but outspokenly tart character, with yoghurt-like lactic acidity dominating rather than sharp lemon or vinegar acidity, gentle mouthfeel, tons of estery fruitiness (passion fruit again as always in Rodenbach, redcurrant, gooseberry), dry, complex woody finish. Obviously, and as with unblended lambics, the character, complexity, tartness, fruitiness, woodiness and even alcohol strength can differ from barrel to barrel. Very interesting and useful for anyone trying to understand what Rodenbach (or Flemish red in general) is all about.

On tap at 't Antwaerps Bierhuyske, pours a dark amber brown with a small beige head. Aroma smells sweet and sour, with vinegar, wood, and candied sugar. Flavour is more sour than sweet, with a high vinegary quality, medium oakiness, and light sweetness on the finish. The vinegariness is perhaps the highest of any Rodenbach beer I've had. Good stuff.

@ Antwaerps Bierhuyske. Amber red brown colour, creamy beige foam. Very complex aroma of red fruit, balsamic vinegar. Very well balanced. Very drinkable. --> Very good!

Completely flat, and full of various particles. Even some small flies, and larvae?!?! WHAT THE F**K!!? Who knows what?s in this one!? I really should pour this in the toilet right away... Aroma is mild and slightly sour-ish, caramel, red berries, oak, butterscotch. Do I even dare drink this?! A tiny sip maybe; mild slightly sour-ish dry, sour berries, oak sorrel, grass, caramel. Medium bitterness, slightly dry mouthfeel. Probably a very nice beer. I guess I?ll have to rerate this at some point when I get the chance...

Cask at ’t Antwaerps Bierhuyske, pulled by Kraddel, 26/09/13. Lightly hazed reddish amber with a moderately sized off white head. Nose is tarte berry, dank lightly boozed stained wood, cherry notes. Taste comprises tarte berry fruits, light cherry balsam, touch acidic, tarte cherry skins, light bready notes, dank oak. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, tarte finish with a little acidity. Good tangy stuff !
