Dark and earthy, this robust porter exhibits rich mocha-like complexity. "Deep Six" is a water depth of 6 fathoms measured using a sounding line. Let’s hope the quaffable, dry finish keeps all hands on deck.

bottle - Pours near black. The aroma is of roast malt, chocolate, and a little smoke. The flavor is roast malt, coffee, and chocolate. It's a well balanced, medium bodied brew. Very good.

On tap @ Rattle N Hum. This is a really dark brown looking one. The low light in here makes it almost black and it has a medium sized eventually turning islandy brownish head. Smells really good. It's salty and beefy, I get sweet concentrated balsamic sweetness, roasted malts, dry cocoa powder, dark chocolate and a little bit of vanilla. Quite pleasant and delish. A wonderful flavor on this also! Smooth and almost velvety in the mouth while it's creamy and prickling on the carbonation. Perfect balance between the roasted, the bitter and the sweet. Cocoa, burnt wood, kahula, lots of rich roasted coffee and again a little vanilla. A lovely creation. 11.06.2015

Bottle from Nate.
Poured into a mug, the appearance was a black color with a lasting finger’s worth of white foamy head that fell off at a mild pace. Some lace, somewhat stringy and sliding.
The aroma had some roastiness, coffee beans and grounds, light smoke, some black licorice - sweet and spicy tones, dark fruits, sweet wood, and a touch of cereal grain sweetness.
The flavor was moderately roasty with a touch of the sweet trying to balance. And it does a pretty good job for the most part. Sly roasty aftertaste. Not much of a finish, somewhat roasty - somewhat sweet.
The palate was almost medium bodied seeming to sit just a touch under and having a pretty good carbonation. ABV felt good.
Overall, pretty good porter, I might be able to come back to.

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, best before 4/17/2016. Pours opaque dark brown/black color with a 1-2 finger dense tan head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of big milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, molasses, toasted dark bread, and nuttiness; with lighter notes of licorice, raisin, plum, cherry, fig, herbal, and roast/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malt and light earthy hop/fruity yeast notes; with great strength. Taste of big milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, molasses, toasted dark bread, and nuttiness; with lighter notes of licorice, raisin, plum, cherry, fig, herbal, and roast/toasted earthiness. Light-moderate herbal/roast bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, molasses, toasted dark bread, nuttiness, light dark fruit, and roast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt and light earthy hop/fruity yeast flavors; with great roasted bitter/sweet balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light dryness from roast/hop bitterness, lightly increasing through the glass. Medium carbonation and medium-plus body; with a very smooth, creamy/bready, and lightly sticky/chalky balanced mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is an excellent English porter style! All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt and light earthy hop/fruity yeast flavors; very smooth and easy to drink. A very enjoyable offering.

12oz bottle, purchased from Trader Joes - Fairfax. Poured a near black color, standard porter color, dark brown, et cetera with a small off-white, light tan head. Aroma was... way too roasty, but perhaps a bit closer to bitter coffee than anything else. Roasted notes dominate this one, but feel a bit too bitter and almost burnt. Very robust. Much flavor. Wow. I really like a good porter, and I think this one was perhaps a bit too roasted for my liking.

Sample at the "Drink Moar Beer!" tasting on 06/12/2015: Brown-black pour with a medium tan head that recedes steadily to an outer ring. Small patches of lacing on the glass. Aroma of roast malt, coffee and chocolate in the nose. Medium-bodied with a roasty coffee and malt character with chocolatey undertones. The finish is sweet with a mocha aftertaste. Above average overall.
