Bottle from Old Town bought around New Years. It’s June, why not. Pours a thick deep brown with a nice tan head that lingers throughout. Cinnamon, clove and nutmeg all over the nose upon first notice. 70% cacao and roasted coffee are noticeable after it warms up. Full bodied with average to soft carbonation. Starts off a tad sweet on the palate with some caramel and milk chocolate but then the chilli peppers kick in for a nice spicy finish. After half a year or so of aging this beer shines. Great stuff from Prairie.

Bottle - Dark chocolate, nice spice and some coffee roast. Deep jet brown with a rich brown head. Lots of dark roast, light spice and a touch of heat in the finish. With 7 months of age this has tempered down quite a bit and is quite nice.

Bottle. A- Nutmeg, cinnamon, cocoa, coffee, subtle peppers, roasty. A- Black color, black liquid, brown head. T- Cocoa, coffee, bitter, malty, smoke, spices, roasty. P- Full body, average texture, average carbonation, bitter finish. O- The aroma was outstanding and very similar to that of Stone’s Xocoveza. Lots of goodness with all the usual Christmas spices. The taste however was slacking. Not as good as regular Bomb! but still good. Lots of cocoa bitterness as it warmed. While I have never not liked a Prairie beer I’ve had yet, I just don’t think even as good as they are the price is justified. While price doesn’t play a factor in my rating, it plays a factor in my next purchase and at $13 a 12oz bottle it just isn’t quite good enough.

12oz bottle picked up at Luekens in Dunedin pours with a dark body that supports a mocha colored head of foam. The aroma offers up spicy fruit cake, espresso richness, chocolate and then some cinnamon. The taste starts with winter spiciness and some pleasing chocolate notes. It then quickly picks up a modest level of oily rich dark roasted coffee and spicy black licorice. Overall pretty nice but the spiciness seems to cut into the richness that is trying to be achieved.

Swan Song at Bruce’s. Thanks to Paul. Almost opaque dark brown beer, untidy tan head. Hard roasted/burned coffee nose. Palate is airy and dry. Bitter coffee and spice. Little dried fruits. Dry finish. Harsh bitter linger. Dry and very bitter, found this quite hard to drink.

Bottle shared in London - thanks to Paul. Pours oily black with a creamy tan head. The nose has lots of burnt wood, cocoa, earth. Medium sweet flavor with strong ashy roast, scorched earth, burnt toast, cigarette. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Strong ashy bitterness to finish, roast, bitter cocoa. Some toasted cinnamon. A bit harsh but OK.

Bottle shared at Bruce’s. It pours darkest brown with a small tan head. The nose is pretty spicy...chilli, pepper, umami, meaty, burnt stuff, Worcestershire sauce and Bloody Mary. The taste is bitter-sweet, roasty, earth, meaty, ashy, drying, some acidity, mild acidity, good spice hit, umami, pepper and burnt plastic with a dry finish. Medium-full body and fine carbonation. Pretty dry and ashy. Nowhere near the regular bomb. Ok at best.

355 ml bottle. (11.0% ABV) Pours an opaque mahogany with a small, light brown head. Heavy coffee aroma with dark chocolate, roasted malt, nutmeg, cinnamon and alcohol. Sweet flavour with notes of coffee, dark chocolate, roasted malt, spices and liquorice with a bitter, warming alcohol finish. Full body with a creamy, oily texture and soft carbonation. A great seasonal brew for winter.

Pours black, dark with a bit of brown foam. Aroma has a lot of coffee, leather, tobacco also there. Dark dark bitter chocolate. Taste has some raw pepper, chillies, chocolate. Bit of heat in this beer. Body feels much lighter than I would have expected from the abv. Reminds me Spaghetti Western but this one has more spices and somewhat better balance.

Pitch black color. Very dark brown head. Huge beautiful baker’s chcolate with chillies, cardamon, dry nose. The mouth is smooth, with lots of chillies, cacao, chocolate cake. Fantastic. Alcohol so well hidden.
