Unkel Dunkel is a traditional dark Bavarian hefeweizen (wheat beer). In addition to the malty, sweet and spice flavor that characterizes a hefe there is a nice lightly-roasted malt character and mild tartness, balanced with just enough German noble hops.

Don’t let the dark color fool you, this is a light, crisp, easy-drinking beer good for any time of the year and one of our favorites.

4 oz pour on draft at Tin Cannon with a Mustang Sally yelling DCLawyer. Hazy brown with beige head. Aromas of dark fruit, malt. Tastes of dark fruit, caramel, malt. Medium-light body with a dry finish.

On tap at the brewery pours a murky amber with some creamy white head. Nose has candy and spice, dried fruit. Flavor has chewy grains, dried fruit, spice. Medium bodied finish.

Keg at the brewery. Hazy brown with a thin creamy tan head. Good head retention. Aroma of wheat and chocolate. The taste is wheat, tart fruits, chocolate. Thin-medium bodied.

Draft at the source. Poured a cloudy, murky brown color with a small off-white head. Aroma was standard dark fruit notes, sweet candi, brown sugar character. Actually pretty delicious. Easy drinking thanks to the abv.
