Vaughn’s Peanut Butter is an English Porter with a twist. Chocolate and black patent malts are the backbone, with Munich and carapils malts added for a slight sweetness, better mouth feel, and head retention. Style-specific hops impart a nice, but not overpowering bitterness. Natural peanut butter is added to the boil, which gives the beer a nutty and smooth flavor.

On draft at the brewery. Pours a cloudy cola with a scant ecru head. Light malty nose. Flavors of peanut butter. Light bodied, light finish.

4 oz pour on draft at Spacebar. Black with light tan head. Aromas of artificial nuts, some chemical note. Tastes of artificial nutty notes, some chemical off-flavor, light chocolate, banana. Medium-light body with a dry finish. Probably wouldn’t have guessed this was a peanut butter porter if I had it blind. Needs work.

Re-tried at the brewery with DCLawyer. Seems improved but still a bit average.

On tap at the brewery pours a murky brown with some creamy off white head. Nose has fake peanut butter, malt, nutter butter cookies. Flavor is chewy with malt and chocolate, some cheap crushed peanuts. Medium bodied finish.

Keg at the brewery. Murky orange with a thin fizzy off-white head. Fair head retention. Aroma of peanut butter, dandelion, massive cooked cabbage. The taste is spice, peanut butter, chocolate, cabbage. I made the comment at the time that this would be excellent example in an off-flavor tasting flight. DMS bomb.

Chlorine and peanut nose. Cloudy brown, thin head. Peanut evident, chlorine still present. Medium body. Ugh, not very good.

Daft at the brewery. Poured a near pitch-black color, almost cola color. Whelp... this smells like crushed peanuts. Flavor is heavy malts, with a nice peanut butter and light cocoa finish. good job on the gimmick. Pretty good.
