Sour Blonde Ale Aged in Oak with Blueberries

Beauregarde is our first ever use of blueberries and we couldn’t be happier with how this beer turned out. We added an incredible amount of fruit to our barrel aged, sour blonde ale and the result is just as expected. A lovely shade of reddish purple with flavors of tart blueberries, just in time for summer. Perfect along side a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream.

750mL bottle, pours a beautiful reddish colour with a small off-white head. Aroma brings out loads of blueberries, a little vanilla, and oak. Flavour brings out loads of blueberries, some acetic notes, oak, and some vinegar. Starts off with lots of the blueberries, but ends up very acidic and vinegary. Pretty nice to start, but the finish isn't that pleasant. Better than some of The Bruery's sour abominations, but amongst their better ones. Decent stuff.

Bottle shared at Bruce’s in London - many thanks to Kenneth. Pours cloudy purple with a frothy, off-white head. Tangy and acidic berries in the nose. Light to medium sweet flavor with more tangy berries, some bitter berry skin, mild funk. Medium bodied with fine, massaging carbonation. Good sour bite to finish, further tangy berries, mellow bitterness. Good one.

Bouteille 75cl, merci Pierre.

Pours clear red with a pink head. Aroma has notes of berries, cherries, brett and funk. Taste is light sweet and medium sour with a long fruity, berry, dry and sour finish. Body is light, texture is thin, carbonation is soft.

On tap at the taproom. An almost clear one, dark red in color, and with a small, white head. The aroma has cherries and some almonds, a touch of lemony brett too. Cherries, lemon notes and a woody hint in the flavor. Medium body, quite dry. A nice cherry beer, not impressive though. 130811

Reserve Society 2013, 75CL enjoyed with the GF.

A - Really nice clarity at fridge temp, pours with an effervescent head that escapes pretty fast. Blueberry ruby tones are clear.

S - Smells very sour, not Mother Funker sour but pretty tart and I don’t get much fruit on the nose.

T - There’s enough blueberry taste to make this enjoyable but if you’re looking for something like Blabaer or even Cascade Blueberry, this isn’t it. I would make this closer to Upland’s Blueberry sour. Tart, mildly acetic, blueberry notes and a hint of wood. I would say more plum than blueberry.

M - Nice carbonation on the mouth swish and a bit of fecal taste sort of comes out of nowhere which isn’t ideal at all

O - Decent beer, nice shared maybe 4 ways and not 2 ways. I might have bought too much of this. Anyone wanna trade?

Bottle. Pours a cloudy light purple with small frothy white head that diminishes to nothing. The aroma is sour fruit , oak, and funk. Thin mouthfeel with nice sourness and light blueberry and nice tartness in the finish. Very good.
