Can 0.5l. Dark red to black, opaque. AROMA- roasted malts, molasses, cappuccino, nougat, touch of raisins, cardboard. FLAVOR- creamy, neutral, lightly bitter, cappuccino, nougat, earthy, touch of raisins, unfortunately cardboard again. Medium bodied. Well, really not bad at all.

0,5l from bottle at a hotel restaurant in Nairobi. Black color, Medium tan head. smells earthy, spices, some herbs, peppery, licorice, some corn. Full body, soft carbonation, slick mouthfeel. Tastes earthy, spices, peppery, caramel, black tea, light corn. Finishes lightly bitter with notes of corn, earthy and peppery notes. Decent one, but some corn notes that fine fit too well. Pretty good overall 6, 4, 6, 3, 12

Tasting at Oakes' Manor, can
Dark brown colour. Interesting aroma, bread, malta smell, toasted grains. Even with this lower ABV, it still has a respectable amount of extract, good malt base, sweetish, roasty, roasted grains, more evident in the finish.
Pleasant.

500mL can, pours a deep dark brown / black with a small tan head. Aroma seems sour, with some balsamic, tart notes, and toasted malt. Flavour is quite tart, with toasted malt, a touch of wood varnish, and light balsamic. This doesn't seem quite right, but it's not terrible either.

This is the Kenyan version. Sampled at Jomo Kenyatta Airport. It was produced at Kenya Breweries in Nairobi. Pours black, with a nice head. On the nose, it picks up some grassiness from the base beer, which is probably some version of Tusker. It has a lot of bitterness, some caramel that comes across a bit like diacetyl ( I found this character in the Ethiopian FES a few hours ago as well). The rich bitterness of FES comes through loud and clear, though the fruitier elements aren't as noticeable in this version. It's not bad, but I do feel that lowering the abv (almost worldwide, I think, at this point) has had a deleterious effect on the overall awesomeness of FES.

300ml bottle, brewed in Kenya, from Woodlands Supermarket in Kigali / Rwanda 🇷🇼. Malty and thick beginning. Lots of roasted malt and liquorice. Moderate bitterness in the aftertaste, thick an viscous, very dry. Nice malty intense aftertaste. Great and deep stuff.
