We looked to acclaimed Chef José Andrés to help us create a Spanish take on the farmhouse style saison. The addition of Lemon Verbena, pink peppercorn, sumac, and dried lime infuse the chef’s distinctive flavors into the brew – an ale purposefully crafted to compliment all your culinary endeavors. Or be savored all by itself.

Bottle. A- Lemons, lime zest, citrus, soft. A- Light orange color, clear liquid, off white head. T- Lemons, limes, soft, subtle spice. P- Light body, average texture, average carbonation, refreshing finish. O- Wasn’t sure what to expect reading the ingredients but holy cow this was refreshing. Noted mostly the lemon and some lime and everything else took a background stage and couldn’t taste much peppercorn at all but it was well done and I drank it way too fast.

Split a 22oz bottle. Poured a mostly clear, rich yellow color with a medium sized off-white head. Aroma was nice light funky notes, some citrus fruits, touch of spices. Flavor was nice and funky, flavors are clean, refreshing. This one worked quite well with the spicy home made meal inspired by Jose Andres’ tapas dishes.

Draft at Scion courtesy of Nate, thank you sir! Clear yellow color. Aroma is herbal. Taste is very sweet, plain, medicinal. More like a tripel than a saison.

Bomber from Total Wine in Folsom, CA. Pours translucent gold with a white head. Aroma of bread, light pepper, dusty leaves, something citrus. Med body. Flavor is yeasty, bready, light pepper, something citrus. Making me think of a bready wit. I think there’s earthiness, but the buckwheat may be fooling me. Makes a change from the heavy duty beers.
