Brewed in collaboration with our pals at Otherworld Brewing, this Flanders Red inspired sour beer is a blended sour red ale combining 80% provision strength ‘young’ stock beer brewed with a rooibos tea and aged in a stainless steel for six months. A portion of around 20% ‘mature’ stock beer was aged in neutral whisky casks for an average of one year. This blend was then refermented and conditioned on 100g/l damson plums and rhubarb juice. The resulting beer has a complex and fragrant fruit character, with notes of stewed berries, plums, pineapple and a mix of balsamic and citrus acidity.

Bottle from Drinkmonger. Hazy amber body with a beige head. Steady carbonation. Faint lacing. Aroma of cranberry and funky yeast. Flavour of bitter lemon and sour cranberry with a light earthiness. Medium body with a smooth texture. Light fizz. This is very sharp and acidic.

Bottle shared by my bro. It pours deep ruby red with bubbly white head. The aroma is funky, tangy, bright red fruit character, raspberry, rhubarb, jammy, strawberry, plum, fragrant tea, damp oak and vanilla. The taste is crisp, dry, tart, puckering, fairly bright acidity but it dissipates, zingy, sour, raspberry, strawberry, rhubarb, damson wine, redcurrant, red wine, dull tannin, fragrant, granny smith apple, muted alcohol presence and lactic character with a dry, puckering finish. Medium body and moderate, bubbly carbonation. Bright and fruity. Quaffable and fun.
