Imperial stout with vanilla, coffee & cardamom
Inspired by fresh cardamom buns and coffee on a cold morning, this imperial stout was brewed in collaboration with our friends from Ārpus Brewing in Latvia. For this beer we decided on a coffee-forward profile with rich Brazilian coffee, rounded out with a firm vanilla presence, and with a subtle touch of cardamom on the backend. Cardamom can be a beautifully warm, enticing spice and we think it plays a nice supporting role in this stout that should pair perfectly with the holidays.

500ml that Josh brought from our trip to the Festival of Dark Arts 2026 @ Ryan's.
Aroma: loads of cardamom with some nice American oak notes (almost completely covered by the spice) on the background. Sweet.
Taste: along the same lines, cardamom bomb 💣
Overall: I am glad I stopped myself from buying it 😬😵💫🤯 Not sure why Moksa folks thought it's a great idea to make something one directional like this.

500mL bottle, pours a dirty dark brown / near-black with a small beige head. Aroma is dominated by the cardamom upfront, with subdued coffee and a touch of vanilla. Flavour is much the same, with big cardamom notes upfront, deep coffee, and plenty of sugars; but the cardamom completely overwhelm everything else. Rather brutal, not subtle at all. It’s alright.

Dark brown. No head. There is a lot of cardamom on the nose, also a fair amount of vanilla. On the palate, it's a bit lighter on the body, again more vanilla and still cardamom. Does seem like a bit lighter/fizzier than I would have expected.

Poured from 500mL bottle. Dark brown with minimal beige head. Loads of cardamom, sweet perfumey vanilla, touch of coffee, quite sweet, gimmicky, a touch thin.

500mL bottle. Pours a very murky brown with a small tan head. Plenty of vanilla and cardamom, some coffee, on the nose. Flavour also has a bunch of vanilla and cardamom up front, some coffee. Malts are pretty weak, very little base to support the adjuncts. Pretty ham-fisted.
