A delicious dark ale with an intriguing roasty character. It is rich and flavorful with a hint of bittersweet chocolate.

A black beer with a collapsing brown head. The of butteracid, roasted malt, as well as hints of chocolate. The flavor also contains butteracid, roasted malt, and chocolate, besides hints of coffee.

Bottled, thanks SpringsLicker! Near black. Sweret and very chocolatey, but also somewhat fatty. Medium bodied with dusty finish.

Nice colour--an opaque dark brown/black. Good burnt/roasted/caramely scents come from the top. Good overall taste, a good mouthfull for palating....but a decent all around beer!

Rerate 03/28/03: I tried a different bottle of this from a different trade and it did taste better, but it is still not a great beer. There was still a faint vinegar presence in the aroma, but the flavor was noticeably better with some chocolate and coffee. 12/02/02 (1.1):Thanks to Trappist for this brew. As with the Black Bear Ale the vinegar presence in this beer ruins it. I even made sure to get a new glass in case the vinegar from the last beer was not completely washed out. No luck though. It's a shame because you can tell there is a good beer under all that vinegar. I will try to track this one down again some day because this can't be on purpose.
