The first in our series of "Open Invitation" beers, Soul Man is Star City Brewer's Guild member James Brown's 1st place beer from the SCBG's oatmeal stout competition. I had the pleasure of judging this beer in the competition and it was delicious! So, we had to brew it! Jim came down to BLBC and helped us try to recreate this jet-black beer which is full of chocolate and coffee/cream. Toasted oats lend a silky mouthfeel, while molasses gives a nice richness of flavor. If you get to meet Jim, make sure to thank him for this dark elixir.
