This use to be a good brew when Rickard’s really brewed it. Then Molson came along and bought them out. That is when I started getting headaches from just one bottle (or pint). In the last few year, it seemed it has gotten closer to the original recipe (as I can drink it again)... as a red swill. Pours an amber-copper colour with an off-white head that is small, but creamy and has nice lacing. Aromas of grain and caramel malt. Creamy mouthfeel and pretty smooth. Mild taste of apples, toffee, but not too sweet (and definitely not bitter). Just a decent easy-to-find better-than-average swill. This is what I get when I go to the Scotiabank Place in Ottawa (home of the Senators).

Decent amber ale available across Canada. Not much aroma or head, however, generally intended to be drank in large quantities. watery finish, okay mix of malts, unspectacular.

Pours a dark amber with a bubbly off-white head. Smooth, but mild flavour of sweet malts. The best of Rickard's beers.

Location: This beer always makes me think of the Peel Pub in Montreal
Overall Impression: I've only been to Canada once, and we would always grab pitchers of this stuff with a quick meal before a long night...It's not a bad beer, the price of the beer and food was are real motivation, but the beer wasn't bad either...

Amber color, creamy head. No aroma. Very light caramel flavor, ordinary bitterness, very watery; a bit papery at the end. If I close my eyes, I may think it’s a Pale Lager, lame.

Red mahogany color. As close to a Lager as a Vienna can get (side to side with the Kokanee they are difficult to distinguish). Amazing for the lack of roasted malt or caramel.

Bouteille 341ml. De couleur cuivrée et claire. Nez de grains de malt sucrés et aux notes rôties, de légumes bouillis et avec des petites notes de houblon herbeux et de caramel brûlé. Mince en bouche avec un pétillement moyen-bas et une texture légèrement aqueuse et aux petites notes huileuses. Notes de légumes bouillis lors de l’entrée en bouche suivi d’un goût de grains de malt sucrés, moyen de caramel rôti (notes brûlées) et avec des notes de pain, de sucre brûlé, de biscuits et de bonbon au beurre puis en finale l’on retrouve une très légère amertume asséchante de houblon herbeux (gazon mouillé). Post-goût court-moyen, très légèrement amer de rôti avec des notes de houblon herbeux ainsi que des traces de légumes bouillis.

Draught, 14 ounces, drank at the Vancouver airport where I was wasting my time, savoured on February 10 2007; eye: amber with reddish hues, no effervescence, clear, tiny white head, lacing; nose: hops, malt, faint odours because the beer was served too cold; mouth: cold, prominent taste is unknown but reminds me of a mix of rubber and wet cardboard, slight hops, light malt, not much carbonation, light body, thin texture; overall: once is enough FRANÇAIS En fût, 14 onces, bue à l’aéroport de Vancouver où j’y perdais mon temps, savourée le 10 février 2007; oeil : ambrée dans les teintes rougeâtres, pas d’effervescence, claire, petite mousse blanche infime, dentelle; nez : houblon, malt, odeurs faibles car servi bien trop froide, odeur inconnue désagréable; bouche : froide, saveur inconnue dominante me rappelant un peu un mélange de caoutchouc et de carton mouillé, très léger houblon, léger malt, peu carbonatée, corps léger, texture mince; en résumé : une fois c’est suffisant

Bottle at Peak’s Bar, Vancouver Airport. Clear amber, thin beige head. Some malt, bit stale. Not much flavour in mouth, some toffee. No real hop, some toffee, touch of dryness. Otherwise very dull, but no bad flavours.
