A full-flavoured, medium-bodied red ale, Rickard's features a slight hoppy bitterness balanced with candy-like caramel malt sweetness. Brewed using a signature Munich malt with a touch of brewer's caramel to create a striking, ruby red appearance and a bold, refreshing taste. A perfect complement to grilled meats.

On tap. Clear dark copper with a small white head that leaves some tight lace. Nose is light caramel and grain. Light sweet toffee start which is about all there is. Thin light mouth with soft carbonation and a short crisp finish.

341 ml bottle. Pours a clear dark amber colour with a small white head. Malty aroma with caramel and grain. Flavour is malty with some caramel and a touch of dryness in the finish. Medium body with watery texture and average carbonation.

The first in the Rickard’s family and while not as flavorful as a true Vienna Lager it did the job in providing something a bit more flavorful in the mass market. Ok.

Bouteille 341ml. Couleur cuivrée. À mon avis la pire de bière de la série Rickard’s. Goût absent, eau, sucre sans plus.

34.1 cL bottle in Toronto airport. Pours clear and golden amber with a small white head. Aroma is toasted malty and light breadish. Bitter, malty and almost caramelish. More bitter and dry than sweet caramelish. Dry and roasted malty finish.

This use to be a good brew when Rickard’s really brewed it. Then Molson came along and bought them out. That is when I started getting headaches from just one bottle (or pint). In the last few year, it seemed it has gotten closer to the original recipe (as I can drink it again)... as a red swill. Pours an amber-copper colour with an off-white head that is small, but creamy and has nice lacing. Aromas of grain and caramel malt. Creamy mouthfeel and pretty smooth. Mild taste of apples, toffee, but not too sweet (and definitely not bitter). Just a decent easy-to-find better-than-average swill. This is what I get when I go to the Scotiabank Place in Ottawa (home of the Senators).
