Bomber from the brewery, gifted by Clarence. Black opaque with tan head, full bodied with oily mouthfeel. Licorice and smoke aroma, molasses burnt grain and coffee taste, harsh edged from the high abv. Finish is spicy bitter coffee.

375ml bottle, about five years old. Pours slightly translucent brown black. Chocolate, coffee, herbal, green tea, pepper, orange, touch of red grape. Medium body. Absolutely excellent.

Draft at the source. Very dark maroon color, beige head. Aroma of dusty cocoa, black pepper, dried licorice. Taste is smooth burnt espresso and huge tobacco. Nice.

Oaky and rooty with some roast malt. Black with some head and lacing. Bitter finish, with light rooty flavour that must be from the Horopito leaves, whatever they are. Tap at brewpub.

3oz sample at the brewery pours an inky black with some tan head. Nose has toast, herbal, molasses, ancho. Flavors of black pepper, raisin, malt, toast, ancho chile. Dry finish.

3 oz draft at Adroit. Dark brownish black with tan head. Decent lace. Aromas of roast, caramel, slight dark fruit, dark chocolate. Tastes of roast, dark chocolate, coffee, subtle dark fruit. Medium-full body with a dry finish. Oily slightly syrupy mouthfeel. Nice.
