5/VII/25 - on tap, shared @ Laval taproom (Avigliani, IT), BB: n/a (2025-620)
Tasted this one twice. The first pour was clearly infected, and pretty bad. I told the owner this, and he agreed, and switched kegs. Second keg was better, but also showed some signs of infection. Putting up the scores of the second try, but wrote down the original below as well.
First try:
Ap: 4, Ar: 4, T: 3, Txt: 4, O: 3.5, Total: 3.6
Clear dark purple to brown beer, small creamy light beige head, unstable, non adhesive. Aroma: ooh, smells infected, sourish, weird, like cola, red berries, a gentle roast, a hint of vinegar, some balsamic. MF: ok carbon, medium to light body. Taste: sourish, red currants, weird, not very roasted, lots of lactic acid, nope, something’s very wrong here. Aftertaste: more acidity, red fruits, sourish, tastes like a Flemish sour, not like a stout, very sour, mainly lactic acid.
Second Try:
Clear purplish to brown beer, creamy dense beige head, pretty stable, non adhesive. Aroma: lots of laurel, herbal, again some soft acidity in the beer, a touch of vinegar, lactic acid, gentle roast, some diacetyl. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: again pretty sourish, but not as much as the first time, a soft roast, some gingerbread, red forest fruits, blackberries, cherries, some bubble gum. Aftertaste: a bit sweet, some diacetyl, gentle roast, cherries, a bit sourish, no vinegar anymore, more red forest fruits, blackberries and cherries, ok but not great.
