We’re proud to introduce Schwemme, a "Schankbier" inspired by the sessionable pale lagers of Germany. At just 3.7% ABV, our take on the style pours a canary yellow hue with a bright white foam cap. We used undermodified German Pilsner malt from our friends @sugarcreekmaltco for a "grain husk" and doughy malt character, perfectly complemented by Perle hops. The latter provide a faint bitterness with notes of pear, apple blossoms, and subtle menthol.

Schankbier literally translates to “tap beer” -- a bygone German beer tax classification for a low-alcohol lager served only from the tap at the brewery. This is the style we imagine ourselves serving at a "Schwemme"--historically, the alleyway between brewery buildings used for watering the horses and serving a quick beer. Linking a brewery's tavern or beer garden, the Schwemme historically serves as a great place to grab a lager any time of day, whether in Bamberg's quiet morning lull, or in the afternoon shuffle of Munich. We've enjoyed visiting many a "Schwemme" in our travels, and hope that you similarly enjoy our representation of these experiences. Prost!

Pours clear, pale yellow gold into a willi. Bright white head with good retention recedes to skim surface. Light malt and corn aromas. Crisp, sharp and dry with toasted white bread, pear and honey upfront turning to a hint of mildly buttered popcorn in the medium length finish. Refreshing.
