Black currant mead aged in new French oak barrels.

Our hallmark black currant mead, Black Agnes, was matured in new French oak barriques for this luxurious variation on a timeless favorite. Within them, Black Agnes found new dimensions--dark fruit and vivid acidity enriched in layers of warm spice, subtle smoke, and a silken oak texture. The result is a poised, contemplative expression that deepens the black currant mead's natural elegance while preserving the fidelity its fruit.

375ml bottle. Pours a deep dark purple color. The aroma is strong with black currants and fresh cut woodsy oak. The taste, as in the nose, the first thing you notice is the taste of new oak. This is followed by sensations of black currant and honey. Acidity is somewhat high making this a masterpiece of sweet and sour. The finish is long and magnificent. Overall: Top shelf creation. The prominence of the new oak barrel in both the aroma and taste is a rather new twist on the venerable fruit mead. Paired well with some Lancashire fluffy monster cheese.
