Vortex + Mai Tai PA = VOR TAI PA
Fort George’s beloved Vortex meets Alvarado St. Brewery’s legendary Mai Tai PA.
Picture this: it’s late summer, orange evening light bathes the firm, cool sand at the water’s edge and Vortex, Oregon’s favorite year-round west coast IPA, is standing in the shallows contemplating the offshore winds. Then suddenly - Mai Tai PA, a tropical west coast IPA from the land of the sun, drops into the pocket of an incoming wave - skimming the edge of the whitewash. Eyes meet. Hearts beat. It’s love at first site.
Beneath the glassy surface we’re more similar than different - each of us hailing from historic and industrious towns, deeply tied to our history, our community and our craft.
Arriving early for Vortex Month, it’s a tropical, fruity, powerful, assuredly crushable IPA. From the two best in the west: Fort George and Alvarado St.
Hops: Mosaic, Mosaic Cryo, Simcoe, Simcoe Cryo
Malts: Rahr 2Row, Weyermann Acidulated

Can from Tavour. Pours clear gold with a moderate foamy white head. Aroma of tropicals with a light garlic/green onion note. Med body. Pretty dry. Pretty bitter. Pretty - no quite - dank. Flavor is quite a mix - lots of tropicals - including dank - but that allium character is quite present. Malt is nicely obscured. Long persisting dank bitterness. Great ale.

On tap at Chuck’s CD, pours a clear golden with a small white head. Aroma brings out lots of piney hops, tropical fruits, and biscuity malt. Flavour is bright, with lots of citrusy hops, melon, and biscuity malt. Citrusy, dry finish. Good stuff.
