Rated @ FdB Cologne 2015. Sourish beginning. Smooth. Hints og smoke, watery body, not too intense but fresh. Sourish-smooth. Hints of smoke and salt in the aftertaste. Nice!

Tap at Festival der Bierkulturen. Clear, yellow-ish, pale golden colour with small, frothy, fading, white head. Sour-ish, fruity aroma, a minimal smoky touch. Taste is tart, fruity, cautiously smoky, a dry, woody touch, fruit acid. Well balanced, highly drinkable, very nice.

What a treat to discover when I stumbled into my new favorite bar in Seattle, the Stumbling Monk. A Belgian themed bar with a German Smoked Berliner Weisse on tap. I thought I was in a parallel universe or something, particularly b/c I did not know Bahnof made a smoked version of the Berliner Weisse. I was actually skeptical at first. And my first sniffs and sips of the beer made me think that the bar chalk board and tenders were mistaken. But it need a little time to warm up for me to pick up the unmistakeable smoked malt. These draft versions of the Berliner Weisse keep getting tarter with the years and I really like them. So, maybe the only thing that can make it better is adding just a smidgen of smoked malt. Behind everything there is now a touch of slick and sweetness from the smoke. Otherwise, the same Berliner is still there.

On draft at Rustico Alexandria. Poured a pale yellow golden color with a small fizzy white head. Aroma was light smoke, nothing overpowering, with a touch of wheat, yeast, and some light lemon fruits. Flavor was touch of wheat, smoke. Nice tartness, enjoyable.

Draft at Churchkey. Hazy golden yellow color, bright white head. Aroma of subtle smoke on a background of lightly tart lemon with distant feet. Taste is tart lemon, subtle char, dry and sicky mouthfeel. Das schmekt.
