BA Imperial Porter
A decadent imperial porter aged in Finnish rye whisky barrels and infused with exotic amburana wood.
Taste
A luxurious, almost oily viscosity floods the palate with toasted coconut and vanilla-laced frosting before the senses plunge into a dense chocolate ganache. The beer finishes with a dry, dignified wave of rye whiskey warmth and elegant oak tannins.
Appearance
Jet black with a chestnut brown head
Nose
The aroma echoes from the glass as a heady marriage of slow-dripped Vietnamese coffee and velvety condensed milk, wrapped in the oven-fresh scent of cinnamon buns, with the edge pieces ever so slightly browned.
Malts
Munich light, Pilsner, Special B, Caramel 150, Chocolate, Chocolate rye, Carafa special T-3
Hops
Magnum, amburana wood, lactose

(Keg at Põhjala Taproom, 20260530) The beer poured black. Its head was small and lightly brown. Aroma had coconut, vanilla, dark chocolate and ash. Palate was full bodied and warming with medium carbonation. Flavours were coconut, wood, sweetness, burnt malts, ash and bitterness. Aftertaste had sugary sweetness, burnt malts, ash and bitterness. An excessively sweet brew with a nasty surprise: coconut.

Black colour, small brown head. Aroma is nutty, toasted, liquorice, mild fudge and some biscuits too. Flavour is quite similar, ending in a rather sweet way.

Bottle picked up from Beyond Beer webshop Hamburg and consumed at home Friday 15th May 2026, we had a great Keema Pau with Samosas and Rice. Listening to 6Music. Pours black with a light tan head. The nose is dark bitter chocolate but it's also got hints of vanilla. In the mouth more of the sane, this amburana wood really does put a twist on things. There's a little bit of spice, some tonka, a little chocolate covered coconut, re: the tonka, I don't see that in the description. It's a smooth, rich, lovely beer chocolate, coconut again nice. Score: 7.9

33cl bottle from Põhjala Brewery & Tap Room, Tallinn. Pours pitch black with a fairly modest, tanned head. Roasty and somewhat boozy with coconut dominating initially, dark chocolate, dark fruits, whisky and bready notes as well. Smooth, desserty and warming - quite enjoyable.
