Freakazoid” is our newest foray into the beautiful world of NZ Pilsner, and boy is it a beaut!
Mashed with a base of 100% @Riverbendmalt, comprised of a blend of Czech Pilsner and Chesapeake Pilsner and a dash of Chit Malt, specifically designed to pull out Malt presence and present a minimal backbone on which to let the hops shine. Hopped generously throughout the boil with Egger’s Riwaka and Whirlpooled heavily with Egger’s Motueka before being fermented low and slow with our House Lager Yeast and spunded for natural carbonation. It was then hit with a Dry Hop of Pacifica and Mosaic Liquid Lupulin before being laid down to rest in our Horizontal Lager Tanks for a few months.
We experience an incredibly soft and gentle body, plenty of Citrus zest and Pear juice, a sort of Blueberry-meets-Lime vibe, an absolutely undeniable “New Zealand fruity” hop bouquet throughout, and just a kiss of that dank-and-grassy character that takes you all the way to Flavortown.

Kind of pilsner-adjacent, with a grassy malt crispness offset by pear and stone fruit and tropical note, followed by a yeasty finish. Slight mineral bitterness on the back end, but tasted blind I’d never call this a pils.
