[2/21/15] Draught at Winter Brew Fest 2015 in San Diego. Black with a brown head. Aroma of roast and spice. Roasty flavor with coffee, some chocolate, licorice, and a spicy bitterish finish. Medium to full-bodied.

Bottle, 22oz. It pours a more or less black body, topped by a dense, finger-thick light tan head. The aroma has a touch of spices, cooked vegetables and some higher alcohols, but most of all there’s roasted malts, cocoa and dark chocolate. There’s roasted malts and bonfire hints in the flavor, it’s quite dry on the palate, yet there’s a flavor of residual sweetness. Spice hints, dark chocolate and coffee. Long finish with lots of dark flavors. It’s certainly a nice one, a bit rough and unclean in the aroma, making me thing I liked the barrel aged habanero edition better, but I see I rated that a bit lower. Would’ve been nice tasting all editions side by side. 130822

Bottle 650ml @ Hotel Room, Hacienda Hotel LAX, El Segundo, CA
Pours pitch black with a tan head. Aroma has notes of roasted malt, chocolate, cinnamon, alcohol and licorice. Taste is medium to heavy sweet and medium bitter with a long warm, chocolate and licorice finish. Body is full, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.

Bomber from Bine & Vine. Pours very dark brown/black with a 3 finger foamy tan head. Aroma is Mexican chocolate. Full bodied. Flavor is cinnamon/chocolate. With a lot of smooth burnt malt. The finish is even stronger smooth burnt malt - burnt enough that this isn’t really all that sweet. But it’s not dry. Cinnamon seems to stick to the end. It’s a good one.

It pours with a dark ruby red to mahogany body that supports a tan head. The aroma offers up earthy malts, thick malt sweetness, dark roasted malts and a mild earthy chili pepper meat note in the background. The taste is thin in body giving up dark roasted malts, a bit of burnt malts and moving into cinnamon and a light chili pepper meat sensation. There’s an earthy malt note hovering around in the background and it fits in nicely with the overall experience.

Deep dark brown coloured body with a lighter brown colour on the edge when held up to a light, with a very fast-dying deep brown head. Aroma of deep spice, roasted malt, alcohol, toffee and the canella is strong. Medium-bodied; Assertive earthy malt flavour with a good robust nuttiness, some chocolate and light coffee notes soon afterwards, all ending with a good sweetness and a hit of the cinnamon. Aftertaste shows a good balance of sweetness and roasty flavours with a lot of spice and even more chocolate and coffee notes on the end. Overall, a fairly nice complex imperial stout with more spices than most and a deep flavour that persists well. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Super Jr. Market in San Diego, California on 07-June-2013 for US$7.49 sampled at home in Washington on 23-June-2013.
