This West Coast IPA differs from other IPAs in that the malt backbone is present only to offer a smooth transition from the aggressive hop flavor to the onset of a nice lingering bitter finish. HopJack is dry hopped twice with Cascade, Centennial, & Simcoe then "filtered" through our hopjack full of whole-leaf Cascade & Simcoe hops.

On tap at Blackstone, pours a clear copper with a small white head. Aroma brings out earthy hops, some chalky notes and biscuity malt. Flavour is along the same lines, with chalk, earthy hops, and biscuity malt. A little flat and jumbled, but it's okay.

Sample at GABF 10/07/2017, thanks to my bro for assistance with note-taking. Clear amber-bronze color with a medium off-white head that recedes steadily. Stringy lace. Aroma of citrus, hops and malt. Medium body with flavors of grapefruit, herbal hop and malt. The finish is moderately bitter with a short hoppy aftertaste. Decent overall.

Bottle from Craft Brewed. Pours a clear golden amber with a finger of foam that lingers. Simple but solid. Lots of citrus, light caramel and pine. Clean, medium bitterness. I’d order this again. --- Beer merged from original tick of HopJack on 22 Jul 2017 at 17:26 - Score: 7. Original review text: Simple but solid. Lots of citrus, light caramel and pine. Solid West Coast IPA, with a massive dank citrus heart and a bitter hop kaleidoscope on the fade. A bit weak in the middle, with mild cereal malts doing little to add depth to the hopping, but the finish is a resinous, herbal-citric blast. If you like Cascade, you’ll dig this bottle.
