Bourbon Barrel-Aged Imperial Stout with Cacao, Vanilla and Tonka

A bourbon barrel aged imperial stout with high ABV dangerously well hidden in a body thickened both by maltodextrin and lactose additions. We used real cocoa nibs, vanilla pods and tonka beans to complete this dessert!

Burzum, which simply means Darkness in Tolkien's Black Speech, is also the name for the black cat that lives by our brewpub, and of course served as the inspiration for the label.

Pours black color with no head. Tonka, dark chocolate and liqueur-like aroma. Tonka, chocolate, vanilla, dried figs, prunes & lightly spicy cinnamon like flavor. Burbon barrel, woody, low alcohol. Full bodied, dried fruit, dry finish.

Bottled 330ml. -at Beerdello Zagreb, shared with Hrabren. Pitch black coloured, minimal head, tonka and vanilla in the nose. Roasted malt, tonka, vanilla, bourbon barrel, cocoa and light alcohol with sweet finish. Easy-drinkable despite high ABV.

0.33 l bottle shared with Ogi at Gogo's Beerdello, Zagreb. Oily dark brown, minimal head. Aroma is roasty at first, licorice, chocolate. Dark chocolate, some alcohol, some lacquer, some spice. Smooth, oily, gentle, quite drinkable, not boozy. Chocolate and prunes dominate the flavour. Medium body, soft carbonation. Dried fruit sweetness, hints of molasses. Finishes sweet with a roasty touch. Quite rich and complex.

Tap at the Prague Beer Fest. Blackish body, some traces of a tan head. Bourbon barrel and some vanilla, plenty of cocoa in the aroma. But the taste... Warmth is there, sure, but so is a beautiful hazelnut layer, cocoa, tonka, vanilla... Impressive, really impressive! It's brutally expensive, but... It might just sell!

Tap at Prague Beer Fest. Full bod, light carbo. High sweet, high bitter. Shitloads of chocolate, cocoa, tonka. Light vanilla. Decadent, just great. Only light warmth, dangerous.
