Draft at Hunger and Thirst. Hazy amber color, medium white head. Aroma of lightly spiced orange candy. Taste is bittersweet candy with an edge of light funk. Very tasty.

Pout is a cloudy orange with a average white head. Aroma is spicy hop Belgian yeast and maybe something sweet like honey. Flavor is again a very spicy hop. Some fruit and a bit of sugar. Finish is herbal and rich. Another solid beer from Ommegang.

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a hazy bright golden color with a huge foamy yellow-white head that lingered forever and left incredible lacing. The aroma was dry, tart, bitter and chalky with notes of lemon, Pez and perfume. The flavor was dry, tart, chalky and bitter with lemon, Pez, perfume and vague herbs. Medium length finish. Medium body. Meh.

Bottle shared at a tasting at Naama’s place. Hazy golden-orange with a big white head. Earthy and spicy yeast aroma with pleasant floral and slightly citric hops. Dry flavor with faint sweetness, yeast, a bit of earth with a spicy note, nice citric hops and a bitter finish. Medium-bodied. Nice and refreshing.

Bottle: Poured a hazy dirty yellow/beige color ale with a relatively large foamy head with good retention and light lacing. Aroma of dry floral hoppy notes with light rustic malt notes also perceptible. Taste is also dominated by dry floral hoppy notes with some rustic malt and some bitter notes. Body is quite full with good carbonation. I actually quite enjoyed the mix between the Belgian ale notes and the hoppy notes.

Actually very good for an Belgian IPA. Maybe Ommegang should concentrate more on hops than Belgian styles. Pours cloudy orange with good head and lacing. Finishes with medium bitterness. Citrus hops with light minty aroma. On tap at DC Summerfest.

From a bottle and I’m glad its a beldgy. I’m so tired of all these IPAs. Nice pale ale pour with a big head. Muted hop aroma. Has some decent real beldgy traits but it seem to be quite yeasty tasting. Yes, fairly well behaved for a sixer, heheh. Now some bittter after taste is coming up the rear. Yes, big rocky head onthis thing will not fade. Could use a few manner and not quite as refined as the old country orval but it seems to replicate some of the attributes. Bettter than many domestic belgian ale wannah beez.

Pizzeria Paradiso, Alexandria tap ($5): Pours golden with a white head. Aroma is a combination os Belgian yeast and citrusy American hops. The two are blended in near perfection to make something called the Belgian IPA. This is archetypical. Quite good.
