Thora Crusher is our brewery's ode to Thora (formerly known as HQG4), a brand new public hop variety developed by USDA-ARS in collaboration with the Hop Quality Group. The first variety to debut from this joint effort, Thora is a milestone for public hop breeding as it is not only agronomically strong and IP-free, but also bursting with a thiol-driven tropical character that defines modern hop-forward beer. On the nose the beer presents passionfruit, guava, and ripe stone fruit upfront, while a waft of grapefruit citrus and a slightly resinous, dank backbone keeps it grounded. A dry, bright finish makes this pale ale exactly what the name implies, a crusher!

On tap at Oakland CHoP.
Aroma is fruity with lots of tropical citrus, grapefruit, and tropical fruit. Light cracker malt and alcohol notes.
Pours a fairly clear, brilliant, yellow gold with a small, thick, pillowy, white head that recedes steadily to a small film that lingers. Light lacing and faint legs.
Flavor is somewhat sweet with light cracker malt notes. Medium high bitterness and light alcohol notes. Moderately strong citrus hop and tropical fruit notes. Lots of mango, passion fruit and stone fruit.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth.
Overall, a solid pale ale. Nice hop notes in the aroma and flavor. Balanced bitterness and a light malt note. Alcohol isn't too noticeable.
