The aroma is rich and unctuous, oily, bitter - sweet, vanilla, toasted marshmallow, rocky road, nougat, chocolate, whiskey soaked oak, saline, maritime vibes, dark roasted malt and mocha. The taste is dangerously smooth upfront, warming, dark roasted malt, bitter - sweet character, more umami than on the snout, liquorice, charred oak, chocolate gateaux, cacao nibs, Irish whiskey soaked oak, some dried fruits, fruit cake, plum pudding and warming booze with a drying, toasty finale. Fulsome body and moderate carbonation. What's not to like? A BA stout which isn't a pastry is a novelty nowadays. Well crafted.
