Hop Labs is where we take beers you know and love and change one key element to see what happens. For this experiment, we started with the juicy, low-bitterness backbone of Juice Bomb and swapped in a Belgian yeast strain. The result layers subtle spice and soft fruit esters over bright citrus and tropical American hops. Juicy, expressive, and balanced real hop flavor up front, with a finish that reminds you this one’s a little different.

Draught at Beerlove: pours slightly hazy with white head. Candy yeast, citrusy notes. Taste is low bitterness, somewhat sweet. Good rep of style.

Is...is this a Belgian Trippel? Because it sure smells Belgian, and not a whole lot else. And yes, it is Belgian, having looked at the description after-the-fact, I feel somewhat vindicated. I assumed (I think justifiably) that Hop Labs experimental IPA would be an IPA with...experimental hops. Nope. Juice Bomb with Belgian yeast. Go figure. It isn't too crude (no big clove, no banana) but there's also very, very little hop. Certainly not juicy. Let's check the date....OH RIGHT, Sloop stopped dating their IPA cans!
Tastes like a Belgian ale with some pepper and citrus rind. No juiciness. Doesn't feel very American, which is impressive. But it's got a lovely texture, chewy and deep with great attenuation and very little crude ester character, so I can at least get behind that.
