‘Bulwark’ is a 12.7% imperial porter aged for over two years in Cognac and Bulgarian oak barrels. The Blend was:
-70% Cognac barrel aged beer
-30% Bulgarian oak barrel aged beer
Encased in the glass the cognac barrels shines with burnt toffee, dark fruits, dried apricots, vanilla, milk chocolate and plenty of nuttiness. With the Bulgarian oak providing the bolder and deeper chocolate and Vanilla flavours.
Best enjoyed 10-14C.

Near opaque dark brown beer, small and short lived bubbly dark tan head. Smooth palate, mildly dry, decent fine carbonation. Smooth dark malts, a nice chocolatey streak if a tad candy artificial. Cognac barrel adds some sophistication with very nice brandy richness, ripe fruity. Mild esters. Oak barrel induced vanilla. A grower this one, underwhelmed on the first few sips but gradually seduces with its charms.

330mL bottle, pours jet black, almost no head. Nose is elegant, with a wonderful cognac barrel character, oak, and some dark sugars. Flavour is remarkably complex and balanced, with an impeccable cognac character that meshes with the oak, gentle sugars, and a rich malt base to support the oak and cognac. Wonderful.

Nose is rich roast, raisins, chocolate, spice, hint of booze.
Taste comprises dark malts, rocky roads, charr, molasses, marshmallow, well integrated barrel tones.
Full bodied, oily feel, semi drying close with a balanced rising boost.
Solid.
