Blonde Bock
Bock beers are represented by a male goat, which in German lore symbolizes strength and virility. In accordance with the Reinheitsgebot (German Purity Law of 1516), bock beers must have a pre-fermentation malt sugar concentration of 16%, which converts over to at least 7% alcohol after fermentation. These strong beers were made popular in the early 1600’s by monks in order to minimize their hunger during fasting periods. While most bocks are dark, Blonde Bock is golden-colored and malty with a rich, creamy head. The rich flavor is counterbalanced with just the right level of bitterness from the Hallertau aroma hops and create a very smooth profile.

Bottle. Pours a orange copper with a small frothy white head that diminishes quickly to nothing. The aroma is a fruity malt with clove and citrus. Medium mouthfeel with a dry malt with caramel and mollasses. Easy to drink a good bock from GB.

Location: We have a bunch of these in the metro DC area, I think I've prob been to 3 of them, including the one in "Downtown Rockville" that I visit pretty often, I've had this one on tap there (but only once)
Overall Impression: I'm not a huge Blonde fan in general, and this one was pretty much what I expected. For the style this one is right in line, some sweet malty fruitiness, relatively boring...

Pours brilliantly clear deep gold with decent white head. The mild aroma seems corn like with a bit of grainy malts to go along with some malts sweetness and floral hops. The taste is much the same starting with a slight bitter hop bite, grainy malts and a sense of corn. It then develops a mild sweet fruity ester component just as the floral hop flavor becomes noticeable.

Bottle. Pours with a fading off-white head over a clear golden body. Aroma is not great. Alcohol peaks through with notes of DMS (cooked corn), diacetyl (butter), grassy, light struck and cereally. Taste is buttery, grainy, and slightly astringent. Very disconnected. Fizzy and dry.

12 ounce bottle from Beer Run in Charlottesville, VA. Pours a clear amber with a medium frothy head. Fair head retention and lacing. Aroma of grassy hops and some grainy and nutty notes. Taste is toasted malts, grass, hay and nuts. Medium bodied. Decent.

Bottle from Total Wine - Midlothian on 04/10/2009. Very clear golden body with a medium creamy off-white head. Sweet honey with bready and toasty malt aroma. Sweet bready flavor with a bit of honey and faint toasty notes. Medium light body with moderate carbonation.

Draft @ SF location. Pours a clear golden color with a small white head. Has a sweetish malty grainy and slightly spicy aroma. Sweetish malty grainy flavor. Has a sweetish malty and slightly spicy finish.

Draft at the Pasadena location. A dark golden beer with a thin white head. THe aroma is sweet and very malty combined with notes of caramel. The flavor very sweet and malty again with notes of caramel, but also alcohol, leading to a dry alcoholic finish. Too simple for a bock.
