Great American Beer Festival Silver Medal Winner
North America's “Original Steinbier.” Brewed using a traditional German technique, stones heated in our wood fired ovens are lowered into the beer during the brewing process, giving the beer its unique caramel character. Awarded “Three Stars” by Michael Jackson, the world’s leading beer writer. Great with salads and lightly flavored dishes.

From tap at Boscos, Memphis. Sweetish bready malt aroma with caramel, grain, and some straw. Bit sweet flavour with a light bitterness. Light to medium body. Forgettable, but not as bad as some older ratings suggest.

I think this beer has more appeal for the masses than the beer snob. An excellent attempt to recreate an historic style or process, but not a beer with any overwhelmingly outstanding flavor attributes. Ask for a sampler first and be your own judge.

Caramel bomb, massive malt front giving up bread and esters, with a mildly pungent hop finish. Clean fade laced with apple. Interesting, even if it’s not all that great.

On tap at Boscos Memphis. Filtered orange tan. Thin, steady head. Pretty straightforward, with some nice caramel tones. Quite mellow and sessionable. Not world class, but still very enjoyable.

Location: Draft at Little Rock Brewpub, 8/23/11
Aroma: The aroma is mostly caramel, with some citrus and spice, a solid nose overall
Appearance: The pour is a hazy gold color with a white head and moderate lace
Flavor: The taste is a combination of yeast and malt flavors that is mid sweet and lightly bitter
Palate: This one has and average amount of carbonation to it, with a decently crisp mouthfeel
Overall Impression: Since this one counts as Tennessee (even though I got it at the Arkansas version of the Brewpub), this will count as state #40. I sure do enjoy knocking off these random milestones. As for the beer, I found it to be a solid German style brew that exceeded my expectations (granted they weren't that high).
