Meet the second entry in our single-hop Extra Pale Ale series, Reissue: Dolcita.
This 5% XPA is hopped exclusively with Dolcita. Formerly dubbed HBC 1019, Dolcita made its commercial debut just last fall. The Pacific Northwest varietal’s name combines the Italian word for sweet (“dolce”) with the Spanish diminutive suffix “-ita.” But we find this “little sweetie” to have quite the big voice: candied lime, ripe peach, caramelized pineapple, and orange citrus peel erupt from a freshly cracked can of the XPA.
The grist of Reissue: Dolcita charts a different course from its series predecessor. Pilsen malt, supported by rye and chit, lend the beer an easy drinking, light body more in line with the Australian progenitors of the XPA style.
It’s calling your name.

Pint at the Roost pours a corn gold with a little bit of chill haze and some lacey white head. Nose is fine, house IPA feel, a little grist and cracker, some soap, muddled citrus. Flavor is grist, soap and citrus peel. If the nose is muddled then the flavor is decidedly old school. Bitter, slick and off dry on the finish. Maybe a bit of age?
