We’re making a BIG splash with this new super-sized 568mL West Coast Double IPA.

Cannonball showcases a deliciously dank medley of Pacific Northwest hops that include Columbus, Centennial, Simcoe, Amarillo and Cascade plus a malt bill of Pilsner, Pale and Vienna, all leading a big, bold brew that’s soaked with flavour.

Clear the decks and run for cover — Cannonball is doubling down on your love for true-to-terroir West Coast IPAs.

Huge can. Pours a dark amber with full head. Aromas of candied fruit, old piney hops and doughy malts. Flavors of resin, pine, dull citrus and bready malts. Very bitter finish. Not much to write home about. Points off for the stupid large can for a high ABV beer.

568mL can, pours a clear golden orange with a small white head. Aroma is big on the caramel malts and candied fruits, while the hops taking a backseat, though I do get hints of resin and even slighter hints of pine. Flavour is pretty weak on the hop expression; there’s lots of sweet caramel malts, candied fruits, and very, very gentle bitterness. Looks like they used all the best PNW hops, but maybe not enough of them? The balance is very lopsided to the malts. That said, there’s nothing really egregious about this; it’s just really lacklustre. Not convincing as a WCIIPA—maybe more like a strong golden ale.
