Razz Wheat is a classic local favorite originating from the brewpub in Athens, Ohio. Natural raspberry puree is added during fermentation giving this beer a unique and playful personality. The rosy haze and sticky head embody a continuum of sour sweetness held together by a wheat back bone.

Sampled from a 12 oz can this beer poured a dark bronze color with a large creamy-soapy white head that left good lacing. The aroma was tangy, sweetish and had a vague berry note. The flavor was tart and tangy with faint bread, a touch of phenol, and faint vague berry. Medium length finish that turns dry. Medium body. Disappointing.

From a can, been holding on to this for a while. Has a slight orange tinge about it, but not pink or anything. Nice pour with a decent head. Smells like volatile raspberries. Not as sweet as I was expecting but since its a wheat ale, it figures. Yes, lots of astringent bitterness in there for a fruity. Difficult and medicinal at times. Yes, just another below average fruit beer that does not really taste like fruit, wew. Not impressed, not even well behaved like a hefe should be.

Can. Pours faintly pinkish pale amber, small off-white fizzy head that mostly dissipates quickly leaving some residual and a bit of lacing. Aroma is kinda fake raspberry and wheat, grains. Flavor is light plus sweet, and fairly sharply bitter; perhaps more astringent than bitter; odd. A fakish raspberry flavor along with some graininess and cleaning fluid. Light body, high carbonation. Meh.

In the can @ home, thanks to michcam for sending. Pours a touch hazy, orange appearance with an off white head. Aroma is fruity and spicy- some notes of berries, a little twang of chemicals. Moderate carbonation. Thin body. Low sweetness. Kind of stale with dull fruit notes. A little herbal. Bland and boring.

On tap at OβHouleys (now Jackie Oβs). Pours a reddish/pinkish light brown. Taste is wheat and raspberries. Taste is enjoyable and even many of the ladies will enjoy this one.

Sample at the brewpub. The beer is a murky reddish-orange color with with a thin white head that diminishes quickly. Spotty lacing on the glass. Tart raspberry aroma with some wheat in the background. Light body with a mildly sour raspberry flavor that has notes of wheat and malt in the background. The finish is fruity with a tart raspberry aftertaste. Decent overall.
