100 % of the hops in 2011 Hopivore were sourced through the Michigan Hop Alliance. Hopivore features Cascade and Brewer’s Gold hops from the Leelanau Peninsula. The hot and dry weather this year helped create productive and flavorful alpha and beta acids in these maturing vines, which are in their third and fourth season.Hopivore is a wet-hopped Harvest Ale, so the hops were introduced to the kettle only hours after harvest, without being dried. Hopivore presents a round, deep hop character, balanced by modestly sweet maltiness. Expect a more herbaceous hoppiness than other hop-forward beers.

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a dark caramel color with a large foamy orange-beige head that lingered and produced a bit of lacing. The aroma was faint caramel and vague fruit. The flavor was sour caramel with light vague fruits and a touch of nut. Bland really. Long caramel finish. Medium body, fairly smooth. Eh.

bottle - Pours light amber-orange with a very small head. It smells of earthy hops and some background malt. The flavor is earthy, grassy hops with moderate bitterness and maybe a touch of pine. There’s some lingering bitterness in the finish. This is a solid IPA but don’t expect a citrus heavy west coast style brew. These are fresh Michigan hops.

Barley malt aroma. Clear dark copper, headless. Malt and dried leaves. Alcohol is noticeable. Drinks like an amber, perhaps a pale ale, but a little too dark. I hardly would call it an IPA as it lacks much of a hop presence, save for a subtle green leafiness in the finish. Decent beer though

Slightly hazy deep amber coloured body with a copper glow. Aroma of caramel, light hops, a bit of musty funk and a touch of toffee and nuts - interesting. Medium-bodied; Light hops start the taste, balanced with a good malt backbone and then showing some malt and nuts with a little herbal kick. Aftertaste relatively mild with a little hops and mostly sweet caramel finishing off the flavour - no real hop bitterness at all. Overall, a pretty subpar beer for the style and definitely showing a lot less hops than expected. This one is more of a slightly hoppier Amber Ale if anything. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Siciliano’s in Grand Rapids, Michigan on 06-November-2010 for US$2.29, sampled at home in Washington on 26-November-2010.

Bottle. Medium orange-brown, slightly hazy body, thin clumping cream head. Biscuity, cerealy nose with grassy, herbal hops. Toasty, biscuity body, rather dry, with oily, grassy, soapy hops resins, these imparting a somewhat tangy quality to the palate. Bitter finish. Slick, not really a hops bomb, but resinous and saggy.

I picked this up at Armanetti’s in Chicago, IL; enjoyed on a warm early November Monday night. Is this an IPA? Aroma of syrupy malt, somewhat sweet. Appearance is a clear amber with a thin white head. Taste of butter, malt, somewhat smooth but not very bitter or hoppy. Meh.

Bottle shared by Sean, thanks! Poured a clear deep amber with a white head that dissipated quickly to the edges. Aroma was full of strong pine with backing light grain note and had a bit of muskiness to it. Flavor was also had musk with strong pine and light grains.
