100 % of the hops in 2011 Hopivore were sourced through the Michigan Hop Alliance. Hopivore features Cascade and Brewer’s Gold hops from the Leelanau Peninsula. The hot and dry weather this year helped create productive and flavorful alpha and beta acids in these maturing vines, which are in their third and fourth season.Hopivore is a wet-hopped Harvest Ale, so the hops were introduced to the kettle only hours after harvest, without being dried. Hopivore presents a round, deep hop character, balanced by modestly sweet maltiness. Expect a more herbaceous hoppiness than other hop-forward beers.

Bottle. Orange amber, golden cream. Light earthy fresh hop aroma. Medium body, sparkly on the palate. Very broad fresh hops - grassy, citric, earthy.

Bottle pour to shaker. Nicely played wet-hop freshness in the aroma and in the taste.

Hmm... as I opened this an Eminem song popped up on Pandora and the previous rater of this beer got it from a user named Slim Shady. Coincidence? Absolutely. 12 ounce bottle from Sam’s Quik Stop. Pours a slightly hazy orange-amber color with a medium sized creamy tan head. Decent head retention. Aroma of big toasty and caramel malts with peppery and herbal hops. The taste is bitter green and resiny hops with caramel malts. Some honey and toastiness as well. Medium bodied. There’s no best by date on the bottle, so I’m hoping it was old when I bought it. It’s good, but falls short on the wet hop promise. And I’m used to New Holland falling short.

On tap at the mad mex robinson. A little darker than a pale lager. Very little head. Hoppy fer sure but seems to be a little more refined than your typical IPA. I would have said it really does not get into IPA territiry until the finsh, where the bitterness starts to build. Yes, except for the finish, this is a pretty mild and refined IPA.

Pours a coppery, reddish-brown with mid-sized head. Not quite as pronounced in bitterness as your typical IPA. This was kind of muted as far as the pine/citrus thing I’d generally expect from most IPAs.

Pour is a dark orange with a small white head. Aroma is minimal hops but there is this burnt smell there that takes over. Flavor is slightly hoppy with a sweet malt base. Any flavor is gone after the swallow. Not the best effort by this brewer.

Bottle @ home, courtesy of bnielsen13. Thanks again Brad! Clear, reddish copper appearance with a light brown head. Piney, rich herbal hoppy, somewhat toasty malty aroma. Toasty light caramel/pale malty, dull herbal hoppy flavor with some light grapefruit. Not sure if this would be better fresher but this is pretty bland.

Draft pint at Bavarian Lodge. Darker copper than your average IPA. Nice stiff topper of foam. Smell is what you want in an IPA, too. The description doesn’t mention the varietals of these Michigan hops, so I’m free associating citrus with a hint of mint and earth. More beerlike than the sweetness I had the two ratings previous, what definite hop profile and tingly bubbles. Not that the word "mint" is in my head, I keep associating it with the taste, almost like liking an envelope. Well, you’re either a hophead who demands pine tar and catpiss, or an adventurer who digs any iteration of the lupulin gland. If it’s in a beer, I’ll drink it!

12oz bottle split at DC tasting. Orange-brown. Thin oily head. Very mellow, not unlike other NH beer. Clean, with lots of fresh hop tones. Doughy malt backbone. Very easy drinking, interesting contrast between the malt tones and the fresh, earthy hops. Quite nice.

12oz bottle from Pick’s poured into a shaker. Pours a clear amber with about a finger of thick white head. Aroma is caramel, some slight herbal hops and a surprising amount of skunk. Taste is very lightly bitter. Taste of caramel and light herbal hops. Light bodied with a thin texture. Lively carbonation and not much of a finish. Overall, it’s ok. Nothing I would seek out but it’s still drinkable.
