Sampled on tap at the brewery. Pours a clear amber with some very frothy, white head. Nose of a barleywine, raisin, orange, caramel, light brown sugar, pine tar. Flavor is the same, overly sweet, heavy brown sugar, caramel, orange, pine, grapefruit. Needs 30% less caramel malt to be a DIPA. Sticky finish. A little messy.

Had this at the NOVA Fall Brewfest. Poured a, well, there seemed to be something wrong with this particular beer - it was a real muddy color when it was poured out of the keg. Aroma was some herbal, earthy hops, sweet malts, and a lot of yeasty notes. A little grainy, with some nice hop character to it. I’ll need to try this one again.

Served on draft at the Virginia Craft Brewers Festival, Devils Backbone, 8/25/12. Pours a hazy copper color with a medium sized frothy head. Good head retention. Aroma of toasted malts with minty, earthy hops. The taste is bitter herbal, earthy hops with a faint bit of mint, and decently balanced with toffee malts. Medium bodied. Quite good.
