Pours dark mahogany into a tulip. Mocha head with little retention recedes to mottle surface. Dark caramel and chocolate aromas. Thin and dry with sweet dark molasses upfront turning to dark chocolate and espresso in the lasting mildly bourbon finish.

Bottle. Pours a cloudy brown with small beige head leaving spotty lacing. The aroma is roasted malt and chocolate. Thin mouthfeel with a strong roast and smoke with slight alcohol burn in the finish. A very good American strong ale from Clown Shoes.

Curious label I hadn’t seen before jumped into my shopping cart the last time I was down in Mass. Pours a pretty solid black color with a decent creamy tan head that shows moderate retention and lots of lacing. Smell is heavy on the caramel, vanilla, and milk chocolate. There’s a solid roast in there as well as a lactose kind of aroma. There’s a slightly earthy oakiness, but its really hidden under the other aromas. The flavor is again lots of caramel and milk chocolate up front. A creamy vanilla mixes with a solid roastiness and a hint of tannin and warming alcohol. Finish is long and sweet with a lingering roast and warming alcohol. Thick body with a creamy oily mouthfeel and a moderate level of carbonation. This is a big thick sweet beer that demands attention. I liked it a lot, but I actually thought it was a hint to sweet.
