Dark brown and a little bit muddy. There is only a thin wisp of head. The aroma is malty with some dark fruit accents mimicking English yeast, Fuller’s wouldn’t actually surprise me at all. There are caramel notes in the malt, balanced by light plums and dark fruit. The sweetness is balanced slightly by the high alcohol and a lightly chocolatey character. Good ale when I had it years ago, and now it tastes a little old school but still good ale.

Pours a slightly cloudy dark brown color with a medium light beige head that diminishes steadily. Short stringy lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malt plus some touches of dark fruit. Medium body with flavors of sweet malt, roasted nuts and dark fruit. The finish is sweet and roasty with a malt aftertaste. Decent overall.

Bottle. Beer of the month club. Very dark brown color with a medium beige head. Aroma of malt, caramel, some toastiness, fruits, chocolaty and nutty notes and a bit of hops and alcohol. Sweet malty flavor with caramel, nuts and fruits. Finishes with bitter and slightly spicy hops and a bit of alcohol. Medium-bodied with a somewhat thick and rounded feel. Not bad.

Thought I had already rated this. 12 ounce bottle from State Line Liquors. Pours a dark copper color with a medium frothy tan head. Good head retention and decent lacing. Aroma of toffee, citrus and nutty notes. The taste is toffee, earthy notes, chocolate and a bitter almost metallic finish. Medium bodied. Good beer.
