On tap. Poured a hazy brownish amber with a thick white head that laced thickly and lasted throughout the beer. Aroma was full of malts with biscuit, caramel, hay and bread coming through with a hint of fruit. Flavor was similarly malty with lots of biscuits and bread with a bit of caramel sweetness to round out the beer.

Have had this from the bottle and on draught and the draught was much better, I thought. Kind of a muted porter but with a more noticeable fruity flavor. Light roasted malts, medium fruit, a hint of chocolate, and a nice finishing sourness. Wouldn’t have guessed it’s 7%. Could go a few rounds with this one.

Bottle from Wine & Cheese in Clayton, MO. Pours very dark brown with a slight light tan head. I can get garnet, if I hold it against a strong light. Smells a little bit of wet dog (not kidding) and raisiny dark fruit. 2nd inhale elimd the dog. 3rd inhale suggests chocolate. Full bodied. Dark roast malt, and some chocolate/raisin. This one’s good for watchin a movie. It’s fairly well balanced, but tilting towards bitter. Nice ale. Been hoping for this one for several years.

Location: Sampled at the NY Brewfest on Governor's Island, 6/19/10

Aroma: It has a malty nose, a good amount of caramel, and some bread/toast
Appearance: It pours a brown color with a foamy tan head a top it
Flavor: The taste is quite malty, medium sweet, with minimal hop balance
Palate: A touch on the watery side, with a drinkable feel, and a light-medium body
Overall Impression: My notes on this one mention that my written review was probably too harsh due to the brewfest getting a little out of control and making my mood not as good, but the description/impression of the beer is still reasonably valid, I just wanted to keep a note of what went into this review. This was a decent, malt first beer, but I didn't love it.

Bottle. So for whatever reason, the red chair on the label had me thinking that this would be a light lawnmower beer, so I was surprised to see a pretty brown looking pour. There was just a hint of head and aromas of brown sugar, dates and sundry other dark fruit. Flavor is good enough to make me overcome my desire for pointless lager thirst-quenching. Kind of a mix of the aforementioned sweet notes with an autumnal oak leaf earthiness and bitter chocolate. It’s interesting and I can’t think of another beer quite like it.

(Bottle, Oliver Twist, Stockholm, 2 Mar 2010) Dark reddish brown colour with brief, beige head. Malty, slightly nutty nose with notes of chocolate and caramel. Malty, nutty taste with chocolate, dark bread, toasted grain and a gentle, spicy bitterness in the finish. Medium body, balanced sweetness. Well balanced and nice beer with alcohol well hidden.
