Starr Hill’s Little Red RooStarr Coffee Cream Stout is a full bodied milk stout brewed with coffee from our friends at Red Rooster Coffee Roasters in Floyd, VA. Malt sweetness, chocolate and caramel notes dominate the flavor, while roasted coffee notes add balance and round ou the aroma.

Moderate medium roast coffee nose. Black, medium tan head, good retention. Rich, robust earthy coffee flavor, sweet raisin accents. Coffee and mulberry finish. Creamy texture, medium body. Very well rounded and enjoyable, especially if you enjoy a good cup of coffee like I do.

22 ounce bottle (dated 02/14/14) poured into a Belgian snifter. Pours dark brownish black with half a finger of tan head. Aromas of coffee, roast, cola, vanilla, a little creamy notes. Tasting notes of coffee, vanilla, roast, dark chocolate, cola. Medium body with a dry finish. Creamy mouthfeel, medium carbonation. One of the better offerings from Starr Hill that I’ve had.

Bomber: 8.79 Wine Warehouse, Charlottesville. Pours deep brown with a small tan head. Smells of cola, coffee, cream - delicious. Tastes of coffee, and cola. Lightly sweet.

Aroma: The nose is burnt malts, roast, and some sweet malts too, mostly unsweetened coffee
Appearance: It pours a dark brown-black color with a light brown head a decent lacework
Flavor: The flavor is quite coffee, leans unsweetened, with burnt malts and sweet notes too
Palate: The body is medium, leaning light, not watery, soft carbonation and a clean, dry finish
Overall Impression: Interesting stuff. It is much more of a dry, roasty, unsweetened coffee beer than a sweet coffee beer. Works pretty nicely.

22oz bottle pours an oily black with some cloudy, white head. Nose is nice, sweetened coffee, brown sugar, malt, toast, a little tobacco ash. Flavor is the same, sweet lacto sugar, coffee grounds, toast, malt, molasses. Finishes thin.

Bottle. Poured a pitch black color with a wispy tan head. Aroma is a slightly spicy, coffee, with roasted malts. Flavor has toasted, roasted malts. Coffee is there, as is a bit of a spicy undertone. Not too bad.

22 ounce bottle. Dark brown color topped by a small bubbly tan head. Roasted malt aroma with a curious metallic note and obvious coffee presence. Semi-sweet roasted malt flavor has notes of caramel, coffee and cocoa. As stouts go, the body is light to medium and the mouthfeel is somewhat thin. More porter-like than a cream stout. Tasty and refreshing.
