Black IPA, of Cascadian Dark Ale voor de puristen, is de favoriete bierstijl van onze hoofdbrouwer Wilco. De combinatie van het donkere, geroosterde moutkarater met de hoppige frisheid maakt het hier intern nu al een voorjaarsfavoriet. De moutbasis bestaat uit geroosterde gerst en tarwe, met havervlokken voor wat body. Daarna is het bier flink gehopt met een goed uitgedachte mix van Citra, Cascade, Mosaic, Idaho 7 en El Dorado. Deze blend geeft een basis van meer klassieke citrus en grapefruitonen, met een tropisch randje en ook de nodige harsigheid.

Can from Mr. Hop, drunk watching Young Sherlock. Darkest brown, tall & lasting tan head. Very nice roasted-yet-hoppy nose with citrus overtones. Good flavor, dark and malty with a touch of sweetness, full body and moderate fruity hop notes.

330ml can. Darkest brown colour with average to huge, frothy, slowly osteoporosing, minimally lacing, beige head. Roasty, slightly chocolately, dark malty and citrusy fruity, slightly grassy-spicy, hoppy aroma, notes of scallions, grapefruit, some orange, some dark chocolate. Taste is roasty and slightly chocolately, dark malty, minimally caramel malty with some residual sweetness, mildly bitter, grassy-spicy and minimally citrusy fruity hoppy, hints of caramel, chocolate, cocoa, hints of scallions, some orange.
Minimally oily, watery texture, soft, simultaneously slightly dry palate, medium, prickly carbonation.
Nice nose, slightly disharmonious and barely fruity taste - OK.

0,33 l can. BB 05/27. BLACK in the glass with a nearly two finger pale beige frothy head. Intensive dark malty with pine and licorice on the nose. Taste starts roasted malty, increasing licorice and milk choco, some nuts and bready elements. Present citrus fruity elements. Not as bitter as expected. Below average carbonated. Nice one!
