On tap at Galbraith’s. Pours musty brown. Dried cherry, cranberry, oaty biscuit, some toffee, some brandy type fruitiness. Nice.

Draft at the source. Hazy variegated amber brown color, tan edge head. Aroma of sweet burnt caramel. Taste is boozy and syrupy caramel. Spices come out as it warms.

very rich malty character with notes of caramel milk chocolate and cherries. Rich warming. Not massive complexity but well made and enjoyable. Alcohol is a bit present

(On tap) Clear, dark amber - almost orangey brown - with a tiny, off-white head. Surprisingly subdued aroma - perhaps a little licorice and and yeast. Also surprisingly the body only feels medium and very unusual for a Belgian style ale the carbonation is rather low. Broad palette of flavours though, a little yeast, a little aniseed and some oranges. The alcohol is scaringly well hidden and the low carbonation makes it terribly quaffable. The finish is dry and lightly astringent and the alcohol really starts to show. 070208

Draught at the brewpub. Clear dark amber, small head. Almondy and syrupy, full bodied and really sweet with thick mouthfeel. Lightly roasty with somewhat raw mouthfeel and salty licorice finish. Seems a bit rushed, perhaps longer lagering could help?
